Understanding

With Mrs. Woud we used these What if? Who/why? How? What. We needed to really think through the ideas because it needed to cover all of these guiding questions. This is what i have got:

Research Question #1. What is Autisim? Statistics + Who is affected and why/causes?

Research Question #2. What is Music Therapy?

Research Question #3. How does music benefit/effect Autistic children?

Research Question #4. What more can be done to improve life for Autistic children in the future?

These guiding questions will help me research my topic with more of a straight forward meaning rather than just research music therapy, because it is such a broad topic i would be just blabbering on about alot of things but not getting straight to the point.

Week 1.

  • The second lesson of research project we went to the libaray as a class to look at topic books to help think of some ideas what we wanted to do our Research project on. After this session i still had no idea what topic i wanted to do my research on. Later on that day, i finally thought of what i wanted to do; Music therapy. Not only is this go to do with music, which is my main subject, but throughout year 10 i actually thought of it as a career path because i thought it would be very interesting to heal people with music and also help them with their problems.

  • Ms, Mcinnes showed us "Wonder wheel" on Google. The wonder wheel helps you narrow down your main topic into a more in-depth research topic. For example this is what happened when i typed in "Music Therapy".Google_wonder_wheel.png

  • Today i went to Mrs. Woud for some help. I asked her whether she would be able to help brain storm my research questions and my hypothesis. I told her that my topic is on Music therapy and she imidiately said that in the Research project meeting the teachers have, they showed an example of an 'A' grade research with the topic on 'Autism'. This is really going to help looking and referencing to it because my topic connects with autistic children. It is on the SACE website, this is how i get to it:

-How can music help?

"Music is a familiar part of life for children in Australia. They are exposed to recorded music on radio, television, compact discs and mp3. Many still share in making music at kindergarten and school. Music is a part of a child's healthy life.
The music therapist engages that healthy part of the child to help him/her cope with the illness, disorder, disease or other medical crisis which has caused them to be hospitalised.
Music therapy is adaptable to any child, no matter how sick, disabled and regardless of age.
Based on the child's medical and developmental status, the music can be employed in structured ways (songs, song-writing) to help contain or clarify emotions and empower the child. Or it may be just framed (improvised instrument playing) to allow a totally free, but supported expression of emotion. In these ways the music therapist helps to alleviate tension and anxiety and aids pain control through distraction and/or relaxation.
Hospitalised children can control music - they can decide if they wish to participate, what they will do, how it will be done and when it will conclude. Such freedom of choice is not available in many other aspects of hospitalisation." The royal childrens Hospital Melbourne, Last Updated 20-Jul-2010. Authorised by: Leanne Hallowell.

I have realised that being autisic doesn't mean that you are retarded. Autisim can come in all different types of dificianties. It can accure really strong, mildly, or barely at all even. Autisim can be no developed social skills, problems with reading and writing, personal in-closer. This is where the music therapy steps in. Music in itself is an art form which can vary for all different types of personalitys and people with different tastes of genre. It's amazing how one thing can basically suit anyone and please anyone at the same time because in today's society music is so very broadened.

Week 3. This week we need to write out proposals. This is a brief outline of what our research topic is about.

Week 4.

These pictures are some examples of how Music therapy for autistic children looks like:

THE FIVE WHYS
1. Why are more children born with Autisim?
2. Why is Autisim looked upon as bad/retarded?
3. Why is music a key aspect/affect/healing power for children with autism?
4. Why don't more children go to music therapist if they have autisim?
5.

Week 5. This week i will need to create a survey to help my conduct my research on Music therapy with autistic children. Mrs. Woud introduced us to a site called "Zoomerang" Online surveys and polls free for up to 100 responses. You can either use email adresses to send them, or add it to Facebook like I have in the example below. She showed us how she created it and went through it with us step by step, it looked just so easy to do! Also Mrs. Woud showed us how you can link Zoomerang to your facebook, which means all your friends on facebook can help you out and take your survey too!

This is also another survey website method:
